Malina Joshi stands tall as Miss Nepal 2011

KATHMANDU: Stunningly beautiful Malina Joshi sashayed her way to the prestigious Miss Nepal 2011 title beating 18 other gorgeous contenders on a cloudy evening in the Tribhuvan Army Officers’ Club in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

In a glitzy ceremony replete with glamour, beauty, talent, personality and poise, the much awaited Lux Hidden Treasure Miss Nepal 2011 unfolded to a packed audience. Suspense was in the air as the ceremony progressed to a resounding climax with the crowning of the brand new Miss Nepal.

Anupama Aura Gurung missed the title by a whisker to settle for first runner up. The second runner up place went to Sarina Maskey while Manisha Bista bagged the third runner up status. Neha Paudel finished as the fourth runner up.

Among the numerous other titles awarded, Anupama Aura Gurung walked away with Sunsilk Miss Beautiful Hair. Fair & Lovely Miss Beautiful Complexion went to Neeta Yogi. Manisha Bista captured Ganapati Miss Photogenic, Namrata Dahal glowed as Orbit Miss Personality, Hidden Treasure Miss Talent chose Bishnu Chemjong, Pratibha Shrestha dazzled as Close Up Miss Beautiful Smile, Annapurna Post Miss Popular Choice was bestowed on Neha Paudel and Madina Begum stood tall as Model Global Miss Perseverance.

Outgoing Miss Nepal 2010 Sadiccha Shrestha placed the crown on her brand new successor to deafening applause.

Beyoncé Confirms Pregnancy On VMA Red Carpet

After years of denying endless pregnancy rumors, Beyoncé finally has some good news to share.

The "Single Ladies" singer is pregnant.

Beyoncé held her belly as she arrived at the Video Music Awards Sunday wearing a long, red dress, quite the opposite of her normal midriff-baring stage costumes.

When addressing photographers on the red carpet, Beyoncé said, "I have a surprise!" People reported.

Beyoncé's rep later confirmed the news to the magazine. "I'm happy to say it's true," the rep said, according to People.

In a June interview special on "Piers Morgan Tonight," the "Single Ladies" singer said she looked forward to parenthood.

"I always said I would have a baby at 30," said the singer whose 30^th birthday is September 4.

Apparently, Beyoncé's husband Jay-Z has also had children on his mind. He and Kanye rapped about fatherhood on "New Day" from their new album, "Watch The Throne."

Avril Lavigne: Punk Rock Fashion Designer!

Avril Lavigne has launched her own clothing line, Abbey Dawn, which will premiere at New York Fashion Week! The clothing line will feature Avril's signature style, punk chic with frills and ruffles!

Avril has said, "I’m really excited because it’s a full selection this year like footwear, swimwear, glasses, bags and men’s pieces. It’s something I’m really proud of and it’s a lot of fun having a collection.”

House of Alternative Apparel's Store Launch, Lazimpat

The HAA has currently three labels—Eco Essentials, Just T’s and Aira. While Just T’s is a clothing line for men comprising 16 variants of T-shirts, Aira is an exclusive women’s outfit line.

According to Subba, Just T’s is available in casual, funky, funny, polo and print designs. There are 30 variants of summer dresses, casual T-shirts and evening wear under the Aira line-up.

 The HAA’s store is spread over 500 sq ft and will feature an extensive line-up of Western clothes for men and women. What makes the HAA’s products special is that they are made of natural and organic fabrics and are designed by Nepali fashion designers.

To be different one doesn’t need to wear international brands. This is the message of the House of Alternative Apparel (HAA). The HAA is opening its first retail store at Uttar Dhoka, Lazimpat on Saturday where it will feature its three labels.

“The idea behind the HAA is to promote domestic outfits by using domestic materials and manpower,” said former Miss Nepal Malvika Subba, who is a co-founder and creative director of HAA. The HAA was established in 2010 by Subba and two partners with the Eco Essential label. After selling its products to a few retail stores in Kathmandu, the HAA has decided to open its own retail store. The acceptance of HAA products by customers prompted Subba and her team to come up with their own store.

 Subba has roped in leading Nepali fashion designer Tenzing Tseten Bhutia to design dresses for the Aira label. “We have also provided a platform to a number of students who are currently studying fashion designing at various colleges,” said Subba. According to her, there are numerous fashion stores in town, but they lack diverse products. Hence, the HAA aims to address this with innovative and creative products at nominal prices. Prices of the HAA’s T-shirts start at Rs 750, casual women’s wear costs around Rs 1,500 and evening wear are priced at Rs 2,000 and above. As for Eco Essentials, prices start at Rs 1,000.

Winners of Miss Nepal USA 2011

Sujita Basnet, 18, from DC won the title of Miss Nepal USA 2011 at the beauty pageant held at Sheraton Hotel in Flushing, New York on Saturday, August 20, 2011.Tilashmi Bista, 19, from Los Angeles, California was awarded first runner-up and Nabina Basnet, 21, from Dallas, Texas won the second runner up title.

The winner received prizes with retail value of $5000 along including scholarship and gift certificates. The first runner-up and the second runner-up were awarded prizes worth $3000 and $2000 respectively along with other gift certificates.

Kiran Chetry, popular TV host from CNN, and Pukar Malla, Nepali student from Harvard were among some of the judges for the event.

There were total of 27 finalists, age 18 to 27, from all around the United States.

The show scheduled for 7pm started around 9:45 pm EST. Winners were announced around 3am EST.
