300 NEW Taxis for Trivbhuvan International Airport

They say you don't get a second chance to create a first impression. Surely that means our current international airport needs to go under a major renovation spree! One wonders what impression, if any, is left on the tourists that touch down in TIA. Renovating the only international airport has been a task which the government has worked on for the past few years and one of the key development that will take place will be the addition of 300 new taxis for the airport. That's surely good news! A private firm will be replacing 170 taxis with 300 new taxis. Incoming tourists will be happy to hear that English language and a uniform will also be made compulsory for taxi drivers. According to the memorandum, the selected private company must bring 150 taxis in operation within three months followed by a six months period for the total of 300.

I heard the toilets in the international terminal is in very very poor condition (as reported recently by a friend), maybe that should be next on the list. I look forward to sharing an update on this post, three months later, hopefully with photos of the new taxis in TIA.

Malvika Subba Marries Riyaz Shrestha

Former Miss Nepal Malvika Subba has finally tied the knot with boyfriend Riyaz Shrestha at her home in Golfutar, Kathmandu on the 25th April. Malvika who currently manages House of Alternative Apparel expressed how "her happiness has no boundaries" on her Facebook page to over 85,000 fans. Whilst hundreds of us send the best wishes for the couple, I am sure there are guys out there crying in litres upon hearing news of this outspoken beauty queens momentous occasion. I say this because Malvika recently topped the list on the Most Attractive Female on the survey by Saptahik Weekly. That's saying something, Riyaz is a lucky guy!
He now has the ginormous duty of going the extra mile in protecting his wife from eager eyes. Wishing the newlywed the best for the days ahead. Malvika first came to my radar through watching her on a daily basis on Call Kantipur, she was always fascinating. Especially observing her expressions, body language and the things that she'd say. She's unpredictable and there aren't many like her. On that note' let the festivities begin for the couple

Prince Harry ‘to climb Everest’

LONDON: Prince Harry is all set to realise his long-held ambition of conquering Mt Everest – the highest peak of the world -- this year.

The 27-year-old Prince had dropped a broad hint about scaling the world’s highest mountain in May this year at the end of his trek to the North Pole last year to raise money for ‘Walking With the Wounded’, a charity for wounded soldiers.

Harry had, in fact, indicated that he wanted to join the group of wounded servicemen on their next challenge in May, which will see them climbing Mount Everest with a peak at 29,029 ft above sea level, said the reports.
According to a report in The Telegraph, the prince struck up a quick rapport with the group of wounded servicemen that he joined for four days last April on their successful trip to the North Pole.
“I think for me, personally, I’m hugely proud to be a British soldier, to walk alongside these guys,”  the report quoted him as saying. “What these guys have done – and what they will continue to do throughout their lives – is just truly inspirational.” He assured them, too, he would see them on their next challenge.
However, Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on whether it would be possible for Harry to fit the climb into his schedule. “It will all depend on his Army commitments”, his spokesman said.

There has been no comment, either, from the charity.
The weather and a range of other factors mean that the Spring – any time between March and May – is reckoned to be the best time to climb Everest. (Source: Agencies)

Prachand’s new residence – purchased for Rs. 103 MILLIONS?

It shouldn’t have been a big deal whether the Maoist Chairman , Prachanda, purchased or leased the new residence. Everybody needs a residence and a leader like Prachanda wouldn’t fit in a small house. At the same time, leaders needs to be transparent on everything they do and shouldn’t try to hide things specially related to financial dealings
Prachanda’s son Prakash, in his Facebook post, told that the new residence is leased for Rs. 60,000 a month. The quoted lease amount is believed to be extremely cheap for such a building made on a land of three ropani. There was a rumor that the building wasn’t leased but purchased. A weekly newspaper, Sanghu, has published a details on the purchase of the building and asked Prachanda to be transparent on the financial dealings on the purchase of the new residence.
According to the newspaper, the building originally belong to a businessman named Nawal Singhaniya Agrawal and was sold to a woman named Sishu Aryal on 2068 Shrawan 13 (July 29, 2011). The official record show that the building was sold for Rs. 52,000,000 as per the minimum valuation by the government office. The low valuation is told to be done to minimize the tax to be paid to the government. The asking price of Agrawal was told to be Rs. 130,000,000 but, Prachanda asked his businessman friend, Ajaya Sumargi, to reduce the price to Rs. 103,000,000. Nepali blog Mysansar has published the Sanghu article (in Nepali)

Prachanda should make the matter clear by transparently publicizing the details of financial dealings and answer a few question.
  • If the house was purchased, why was it done is such a way?
  • if it was leased, how can they get two buildings on 3 ropani land for as low as Rs. 60,000 per month? What is the motivation behind the lease rate being so low.
  • If the lease rate is higher, why had Prachanda son lied on the amount?

King Tribhuvan’s statue going to be removed from Shahid Gate

The government on Monday has decided to remove the statue of late King Tribhuvan Bir Bikram Shah from Shahid Gate through a Cabinet meeting and place it at Narayanhiti Palace Museum.
At present, Tribhuvan’s statue is in the middle of the statues of four martyrs – Ganga Lal Shrestha, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand and Sukraraj Shastri – at Shahid Gate.
Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that the government took the decision as “it is inappropriate to display the king’s statute along with the great martyrs.”
Meanwhile, today’s cabinet meeting also decided to hold international conference in Kathmandu on climate change in mountainous countries on April 5-6 and to appoint Ram Kumar Yadav as the acting general manager of Nepal Drinking Water Corporation removing Dharma Dev Bajimaya from the post.

Nepal's Suman Udaya amongst the Kings of Bollywood

Have you ever had a feeling where you’re not quite sure if you’re awake or still dreaming? Well that’s exactly what Suman Udaya felt when he was performing the opening act for Bollywood’s most sought after musical trio, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s (SEL) ‘Kings of Bollywood’ Concert in Abu Dhabi on 16th December, 2011. Over 4000 fans took to their feet energized at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, singing and dancing as Udaya performed chart topping hit songs such as Saiyonee, Teri Deewani and I Love You (from the movie Bodyguard). “It felt so good when I heard the crowd cheering loud and singing along with me” says Udaya as he shares his high emotional pact night. “Even though the Nepali crowd [at the concert] was limited, I got full support from them....I feel so proud to represent my country Nepal!”

Two years ago when Suman heard SEL was performing at the Rock On concert in Dubai, he knew he had to attend. “Wow what a day it was” he recalls, “ from that day I wished to perform along with them.”

Just last July, this Nepalese talent’s lifelong dream of becoming a live performer took center stage when he opened the show for the UK/Canadian based Punjabi Dj/Bhangra music production group RDB and Dutch born Pakistani singer Imran Khan, at the Dubai Summer Dhol 2011 concert.

By day Udaya is a business development manager but in front of a microphone, this proud Nepali morphs himself into one of the most astounding vocalist in the UAE. Hence it is no wonder he was personally  handpicked by UAE’s CITY 101.6 FM to perform for these mega stars.

And as for the secret of his success one might wonder? “...it’s passion, even though work is hectic everywhere, I never gave up my passion for music.”
